Basking Platform vs Reptile Hammock

The short version
Use a solid basking platform as the primary basking site. Stone and resin store heat, which is what a basking reptile is after, and a firm flat surface gives you a stable number to measure with a temperature gun. A hammock is enrichment rather than a heat source: it lets the animal climb and rest at a different height, and many dragons genuinely like them, but the fabric does not store heat and it is a poor place to set your basking target. Have both if you have room. Measure the platform, not the hammock.

Check the basking surface temperature first, since a spot that has crept too hot will be avoided, then look at whether the enclosure offers a genuine cool end. If temperatures are right and the behaviour persists alongside any change in appetite or weight, see a reptile vet.
How high can a bearded dragon safely climb?
They climb readily and they are not careful about it, and falls from height cause injuries including spinal damage. Keep climbing furniture at a height where a fall lands on substrate rather than glass, and avoid arrangements that let the animal get above the lamp. Dragons will press themselves against a hot bulb without recognising the danger, so guard anything mounted inside.
Can I use a heat rock instead of a basking lamp?
No. Heat rocks have a long record of causing serious contact burns, because reptiles do not reliably detect dangerous heat from below and will sit on a surface that is injuring them. Bearded dragons are adapted to take heat from above. Use an overhead basking lamp on a thermostat, aimed at a solid platform, and measure the surface.
